There are three types of pirate. Starting from most common to least common-
Vengeful pirates. These are the ones who pirate because they have been burned by DRM, faulty disks, broken serials, or even just ****ty overpriced games which looked good on paper but infact contain less playtime than your average flash game (Sigh, mirrors edge). These ones are "Somewhat likely" to buy the game if they feel it is worth the price it is currently being sold for, and if not they either delete the game as fast as possible because it is so bad or wait till the prices come down a little.
"Its Kool/Hardcore to pirate!"-Pirate. The most irritating of the three. Arguably more common than Convenience pirates, however due to the fact they pretty much all gather around the rotting carcass that is The Pirate Bay compared to Convenience pirates usually being split among private sites and/or trackers such as the well known Demonoid (I miss you demonoid, hurry up and come back dammit) i argue they are less popular. These ones can oft be seen in the TPB comments spouting sacrilegous crap like "HAO DOZE I MAUNT .RAR?!!" or "SEED PLZZZZZZ" or "WTF IS AN ISO I EXTRACTED IT BUT IT DOZE NUTHING" and the slightly more common "NORTON SAYS VIRUS SO IT MUST BE SO" idiots. (//Editors note, these are also called Leechers, or leech***s. Shoot on sight I say, it's open season)
This group will never buy anything unless their mommies get them it for christmas.
The Honest Pirate. Far and out the least common one. The only time they pirate is when a decent demo is lacking, or when that 9 year old "Dungeon Keeper" disk finally gets one too many scratches and they torrent it. If a game is good they will buy it, if not it gets deleted without another word being said. Some rumours fly around that they are the origins of vengeful pirates but no genetic evidence has been found to date.
Now that said, two of these groups will buy a game anyway if it is worth the money it will cost. However, if you try to push overpriced crap (lol COD:MW2) people who have brains will pirate it if they really want to play it and people who buy it end up being pushed one step closer to Piracy, either becoming part of group 1 or 2 or are fanbois who would buy a rock named steve if it showed up for even a second in the game.
Yes. This was a bit of a rant, but whatever. Pirates and DRM are as much each others fault, neither is blameless and neither is going to disappear anytime soon.
